Who can use i-consult?
i-consult eligibility and prerequisites: you need an active i-scribe account, a supported EMR integration (Genie, Gentu or Xestro), and i-consult access enabled.
i-consult is an add-on to i-scribe, so eligibility comes down to three things. If all three are true for you, you can use i-consult.
The three requirements
- You are an active i-scribe user.
- Your practice runs on a supported EMR integration.
- i-consult access is enabled on your account.
1. You are an active i-scribe user
i-consult is designed to work with i-scribe, not on its own. The structured history i-consult produces flows directly into your i-scribe transcript box, and i-consult relies on i-scribe for your user profile and secretary associations. An active i-scribe account is therefore the foundation. Without it, there is nowhere for the history to land.
2. You have a supported EMR integration
i-consult connects to your practice's EMR so patient and appointment data can flow in. The supported EMRs are:
- Genie
- Gentu
- Xestro (connected via the Akuru Chrome browser extension)
Genie and Gentu integrate directly. Xestro is a web-based EMR, so it connects through the Akuru browser extension, which reads your upcoming appointments and syncs them into i-consult. See Sync your appointments from your EMR for how that works on the i-consult side.
3. i-consult access is enabled on your account
i-consult is an add-on module on top of your i-scribe subscription. Access is enabled on your account by the Akuru team as part of onboarding. It is not switched on automatically just because you use i-scribe. Once it is enabled, you receive an email invitation to set up your i-consult profile.
Not sure whether access has been enabled, or waiting on an invitation? See Accepting your invitation & setting up your profile. It covers where the invite comes from and what to do if you can't find it.
Frequently asked
Do I need to use the i-consult dashboard to be eligible?
No. The dashboard is optional, and most clinicians never open it; the history appears in i-scribe automatically. Eligibility is about your i-scribe account, your EMR, and access being enabled, not about using the dashboard.
My practice uses a different EMR. Can I still use i-consult?
The supported EMRs today are Genie, Gentu, and Xestro (via the browser extension). If your EMR isn't one of these, talk to the Akuru team about your setup. Support for more EMRs is expanding.
I use i-scribe but don't have a supported EMR connected yet. What now?
Get your EMR integration in place first; that's the path to i-consult. The Akuru team can walk you through which integration applies to your practice and help you connect it.
